1000 µL Pipette PT

Description

The primary purpose of this PT is to provide an opportunity for participants to demonstrate proficiency in the calibration of a pipette. This PT kit contains an Eppendorf 1000 µL pipette. Participants will use their standard lab procedures to perform measurements.

Sample instructions

To complete this PT, you will need a balance set to grams that has a capacity of 2 g or more and a readability of 0.01 mg or better. When you receive the test pipette marked PIPETTE-105, please allow 24 hours before the test to acclimate to room temperature. Utilize the tips provided with the pipette for all data collection. (NOTE: Excessive handling of the pipette before and during testing can affect results due to body heat from the hand warming the pipette. Wearing gloves or allowing the pipette to rest for 5 minutes between volume points can help reduce this possibility.)

  1. Calibrate the balance with your weight set and fill out a calibration report like you would for a customer. Use Lake Balance Calibration Solutions as the customer.
  2. Test the pipette at 100 µL and record reading and uncertainty on the Data Reporting Sheet.
  3. Test the pipette at 500 µL and record reading and uncertainty on the Data Reporting Sheet.
  4. Test the pipette at 1000 µL and record reading and uncertainty on the Data Reporting Sheet.
  5. DO NOT ADJUST THE PIPETTE
  6. Email results and your uncertainty budget to proficiency@lakebalance.com
  7. After you've received your completed test results return to Lake Balance Calibration Solutions.
